KDE Plasma

KDE Plasma is a highly customizable desktop suite, built using QT. It has extensive widget support, many preinstalled. The panels, layouts, and virtual desktops can be customized in many different ways. Additionally there is a collection of software that is built with KDE Frameworks. Official Site

Preferred method

In most cases, the preferred method is to install Plasma during the distro setup.

sudo pacman -Su xorg plasma plasma-wayland-session kde-applicationsx

Minimalist install, only essentials β†’ ~1.2GB

sudo apt install kde-plasma-desktop

Standard install β†’ ~1.6GB

sudo apt install kde-standard

Full desktop suite, with all applications β†’ ~4.1GB

sudo apt install kde-full
sudo dnf group install "KDE Plasma Workspaces"

or

sudo dnf install @kde-desktop
sudo zypper in -t pattern kde kde_plasma

Essentials #

If you don’t have a display manager, sddm is suggested.
